VILLA STUCK & LEE MINGWEI

THE MENDING PROJECT – Interactive Art Installation

The Mending Project is an interactive conceptual installation in which Lee Mingwei use very simple elements—thread, color, sewing—as points of departure for gaining insights into the relationships among self, other, and immediate surroundings. Villa Stuck invites seamstresses engage in conversations with visitors while repairing or refinishing their garments as an act of sharing between them and a stranger.

The act of mending takes on emotional value. It also constitutes an act of sharing between myself and a stranger.

Work and talk
During exhibition hours, the seamstresses sit at a table, to which visitors could bring various damaged textile articles, choose a color of thread, watch mending their article.

My mending is done with the idea of celebrating the repair, the fabric is even better than before.
